THE SEDUCTIVENESS OF THE INTERVAL
Curated by Alina Serban, the Romanian pavilion in the Giardini was a moving experience. It was hot, uncomfortable, intentional or not - I'm not sure. The catalogue reads that these pieces "confront personal destiny with historic dystopias, expressed either in the form of anthropological documentary or fictional film with neo-realist feature. Peutting onto the stage what is personal, intimate, subjective...." Ciprian Muresan's "Dog Luv" was especially effective in "punctuating versions of the real, obsessively inter-related with the imaginary." Two dog puppets insist on giving another dog a flower while the intended receptor cries out in agony as though he is being told his mother is dead.
